1st and 2nd Corinthians Video: Rebellion in Corinth

Speaking in tongues, women speaking in church, getting drunk at the Lord's supper, eating meat offered to idols, a man sleeping with his step-mother - these were the issues facing the church of Corinth. This early Christian church was coming out of paganism and, in Paul's absence, it would appear they were on the brink of falling apart. Paul resorts to using some Old Testament methods to bring this church back to Christ. Remarkably, "the love chapter" is found right in the midst of this contentious corresponce between Paul and the church of Corinth.

The church of Corinth was a mess. Rebellion, chaos, a disorderly worship service, division, a man sleeping with his step mother, people getting drunk at the Lord's supper....on and on.

The way that Paul dealt with this mess is quite admirable and gives us insight into the methods that God has used to reach us.

The church of Corinth was a church with rebellious elements and with members who carried remnants of paganism. A man in church was sleeping with his step mother; baptisms for the dead; people getting drunk at the Lord's supper; and speaking in strange tongues. What are we to learn from Paul's dealing with this church?

Also, should we follow Paul's advice that it is a disgraceful thing for a woman to speak in church? Should we follow Paul's advice that it is a better thing not to marry? Shouldn't we do what the Bible says?

1 Corinthians 13 says that Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Does God keep a record of wrongs?
