In this lecture on models of the atonement, John Webster asks the important question, “What is the Gospel?” There are many different ways of describing the Good News, but most are usually phrased in a way that makes the Good News about us: The Good News is that Jesus paid the price so that I can go to heaven; the Good News is that because of what Jesus did I can overcome sin and lead a righteous life and so on. How we define the Good News has a lot to do with our understanding of the atonement.
